Call of Cthulhu – The Phantom of Wilson Creek – The Wizard of Wilson Creek

In late spring of 1928, when Boston attorney Daniel Fuller receives a letter from William Abington asking him to look into strange events happening at a piece of property he owns in North Carolina, he takes on the investigation himself.  Enlisting the aid of Bill McAfee, a uniformed Boston police officer, he heads to North Carolina.  The two men are soon joined by a friend of McAfee’s Nurse Nancy Brannigan.  The three find more than they bargained for.

This game was originally run at MACE 2011 in High Point, NC, on November 12, 2011.  It started with just one player (Daniel Fuller) so I added an npc to help him along.  Luckily, a second player showed up halfway through the game.  The Wizard of Wilson Creek is the third scenario in The Phantom of Wilson Creek, a monograph I wrote that was recently published by Chaosium.  The role playing journal of the events here can be found at:

Call of Cthulhu – The Phantom of Wilson Creek – Return to Yellow Buck Mountain

In the summer of 1927, Boston Herald columnist William Madison received a letter from private investigator Alex Talbot, an associate.  More strange things were happening at an abandoned house in North Carolina and Talbot had no time (or inclination possibly) to deal with it.  Madison decided to make a vacation of the request, taking with him his wife, librarian Susan Madison, photographer Walter Corden, city reporter Robert “Bobby” Simon, Dr. Harvey Gibbens, and Reverend Michael Fullbright.  They would find things there that they could not explain.

This game was originally run at MACE 2011 in High Point, NC, on November 11, 2011.  Return to Yellow Buck Mountain is the second scenario in The Phantom of Wilson Creek, a monograph I wrote that was recently published by Chaosium.  The role playing journal of the events here can be found at:

Call of Cthulhu – The Phantom of Wilson Creek – The House on Yellow Buck Mountain Game 2

Private investigator Alex Talbot of Boston, Massachusetts, had been hired by an anonymous client to investigate a supposedly haunted house in the hills of North Carolina in the summer of 1926.  He figured it was a silly assignment, so brought his friend and associate Andrew Hastings, a psychiatrist, with him for a kind of vacation.  They would find things that neither of them would want to remember afterwards.

This game was originally run at MACE 2009 in High Point, NC, on November 8, 2009.  It is the first scenario in The Phantom of Wilson Creek, a monograph I wrote that was recently published by Chaosium.  As the first group did not figure out or stop what was haunting the house, I figured a second group might be hired by the first to do so.  The original name of the scenario was simply “The Inheritance” and the role playing journals of the events here can be found at:

Call of Cthulhu – The Phantom of Wilson Creek – The House on Yellow Buck Mountain

In the summer of 1925, several Bostonians arrived in Lenoir, NC, in answer to an inheritance received by one of them.  Dr. Joseph Abington, Professor of Anthropology at Boston University was the man who had inherited a house from a cousin he didn’t know existed.  With him were his accountant, Alexander Reed, and Mr. Reed’s Secretary, Mary Weatherly.  He’d also brought his friend Dr. Frederick Mann, a physician in Boston, and his graduate assistant, Christopher “Chip” Nelson.  They would find more than they bargained for in that old house.

This game was originally run at MACE 2009 in High Point, NC, on November 6, 2009.  It is the first scenario in The Phantom of Wilson Creek, a monograph I wrote that was recently published by Chaosium.  The original name of the scenario was simply “The Inheritance” and the role playing journals of the events here can be found at:

Bureau 13 – Walnut Creek

Bureau 13, sometimes called the Bureau or the Agency, was secretly established to combat the evil or destructive side of the supernatural.  Much like a simple detective agency, the usually small teams of Bureau 13 traveled the country, investigating, watching, and if necessary, disposing of the paranormal.

Vivian Bradley was a nerd.  She knew it.  She didn’t care.  She could speak Klingon, for God’s sake.  Before she had been recruited by the Bureau, she had been a programmer and worked with Information Technology.  Jason Harken was very, very lucky.  Formerly a beat cop, he was a solid man who had proved himself a credit to the force until he’d run into that THING in the alley.  Zachary Rosenbaum had been with the highway patrol before his own recruitment.  Joseph Black had been a sergeant in the Marine Corps and, unlike Rosenbaum, believed in nothing.  All four were members of the bureau in June of 1992, working together and driving across the country in one of the Bureau’s Colorado RVs, fully decked out with weapons and equipment that could be used in the defense of mankind against evil.

On April 2, 2011, I ran a Bureau 13 game (the introductory scenario Walnut Creek) as a one-shot to test out the game for a review in Knights of the Dinner Table Magazine.  My players were Melissa, Nathan, Matt, and James.
